HAL 18 15 1 3 8

Q:

Think of a farm animal in five letters.  Add a farm plant in three letters.  Grind the result and fry it to make a seven letter food item for people.  Change one letter and rearrange the result to get a farm plant that is fed to farm animals.  What are these words?

A:

Chick  -  Pea  -  Falafel  -  Alfalfa

The man depicted is Carl Switzer who played Alfalfa in "The Little Rascals", a series of comedy shorts created by Hal Roach (R=18, O=15, A=1, C=3, H=8)

  2. I was going to ask for a description of the "grinding and frying" process, but changed my mind.

    Without my "special glasses" I'd only have a theory as to the identity of the man pictured.

  3. Alternatively:
    Take a 7-letter plant fed to farm animals;
    Change one letter, add a letter, and rearrange to get an 8-letter food item for people;
    Change a letter and rearrange to get a 3-letter farm plant and a 5-letter farm animal.
