To My Only Son

Q:

John Simon Ritchie (aka Sid Vicious) was a noted punk musician and drug addict.  On the night of February 2nd, 1979, Sid died. He overdosed on heroin allegedly supplied by his mother, Anne Ritchie.  Rearrange the letters in Anne Ritchie to name something she was never able to give to her son, Sid.

There is an inscription on the image "A Sound Mind", which is what you need to write a will.  Since Sid died first, Ann was never able to give him his:

  1. I can neither.

    Two comments:
    1. Quite a coincidence, the spelling of her name anagramming to the puzzle answer.
    2. Mr. Vicious and I shared a birth date (but not year), if you believe Wikipedia.

  3. Very nice, indeed, E&WAf! According to my machine, you're almost there. Keep up the good work, and I applaud your efforts.

    1. Thanks, Paul.

Now I have a favor to ask of you. Your crypto-post above; I've tried ROT13. I've tried Sharky's Vigenere Cipher using as Key: The answer to this puzzle, the answer ROT13'd, the answer backwards, the answer both backwards AND ROT13'd, then all the same things with the answer to last week's puzzle, -- NOTHING WORKS!!

I'm sorry you went to so much trouble trying to interpret my comment. It's probably one of the poorest, least pertinent I've ever posted. It's a line from The Ballad of John and Yoko: last night the wife said....just something in the 'yctiwy' vein.

On a brighter note, your grid, which is near perfect on my laptop, is absolutely perfect on my e-reader. Thought you'd like to know.

    3. The bold type doesn't show up as well as I'd hoped:
      (l)ast (n)ight (t)he (w)ife (s)aid.....

  4. And now, to explain my unusual post above:
