Hmmm ... a Detroit Tigers T-shirt ... which comes in different sizes.

Using Roman numerals we get 1000=M, 50=L and 40=XL or medium, large and extra large.

S  -  M  -  L  -  XL

  2. Anyone who solves this puzzle can fill in the blanks:

    The answer is _, which stands for ____, just as _, _, and __ stand for ______, _____, and _____ _____ respectively.

And anyone who can correctly fill in those blanks can fill in the following blanks as well:

"The numbers one and onethousand-and-nine are members of a VERY EXCLUSIVE CLUB among all the numbers; they share a property which NO OTHER NUMBERS share! Can you reveal what this exclusive property is?"

"Wait, couldn't onethousandfourhund-and-ninetynine also be a member of that club?"

"No, because the _____ _______ expression for that is _______, not ___."

    "Ok, well how about fivehundred-and-four?"

"Not that either, because although ___ is a well understood ____________, it's not a real ____. Only _ and ___ are correct _____ _______ expressions which are also real _____."

Ok, now who'll be the first to reply with the correct ROT13 fill-ins for all those blanks?

    2. All correct except your ?, which was ZVQ.

But Tommy Boy, C'MON! You're the originator of the initial puzzle in this thread, so you of course had a distinct advantage!

    3. Here is the solution to my "fill in the blanks" Obj. puzzle above:

The answer is S, which stands for Small, just as M, L, and XL stand for Medium, Large, and eXtra Large respectively.

And anyone who can correctly fill in those blanks can fill in the following blanks as well:

"The numbers one (1) and onethousand-and-nine (1,009) are members of a VERY EXCLUSIVE CLUB among all the numbers; they share a property which NO OTHER NUMBERS share! Can you reveal what this exclusive property is?"

"Wait, couldn't onethousandfourhund-and-ninetynine (1,499) also be a member of that club?"

"No, because the Roman numeral expression for that is MCDXCIX, not MID."

"Ok, well how about fivehundred-and-four (504)?"

"Not that either, because although DIV is a well understood abbreviation, it's not a real word. Only I and MIX are correct Roman numeral expressions which are also real words."
